miniComfort® - Stop Clenching Today !

A patented and simply amazing protective guard that will delight you and your patients!

The miniComfort® is a guard that patients can wear during the day! It should not affect speech, is comfortable, and increases compliance. The miniComfort® can also serve as a biofeedback device that helps patients curtail and potentially eliminate their daytime, parafuctional clenching habit.

Our standard design, miniComfort 4.0®, is a thin, comfortable guard that trains patients to keep their teeth apart. When they contact the two elements with their maxillary canines, they can train themselves to relax and open, relax and open, and repeat until the habit of clenching and bruxing is potentially deprogrammed. Now, with our new product miniComfort® 6.0, patients who brux at night can have extra protection through a heavier-duty material. Both are comfortable and effect speech very little.

miniComfort® will seat in less than 1 minute and will provide your patients with a comfortable anytime-guard.

No Other Guard Offers You the World Class Benefits of miniComfort®:

Impressions & Models - Think Lower Denture!

Please send U/L master casts and bite if needed. miniComfort® uses tissue coverage to create a hydroseal for great retention. When capturing the lower, include the full depth of the labial and lingual vestibules including teeth 20 through 29. When capturing digital impressions, scan 2mm beyond the tissue height-of-contour in the labial and lingual vestibules. Maxillary impressions can capture teeth only.

"Puzzle Picture" - A Valuable Patient Acceptance Tool - Patented Method by Dr. John Kline

"Puzzle Picture" was developed to convince patients the existence of Bruxing. The Puzzle Picture is simple in concept and technique, and effective in persuading patients that a damaging event is occurring. As a co-diagnostic aid, the puzzle picture undoubtedly can help your patient understand what will most likely occur without any protective guard. Emphasis on preventative measures today, will indeed prevent irreversible damage in the coming years. This wear pattern is especially notable when evident in young adults. Early detection and co-diagnosis can help preserve a beautiful smile. Almost everyone presents with a puzzle picture with respect to the canines.

Chairside technique: Initially find the most pronounced puzzle whether it be the right or left side and focus there. Then discuss tooth wear, and the length of time it takes to wear through enamel because of its hardness. Then explain, in lay terms, what happens when the canine's (cornerstones of the mouth) wear and become flattened and allow group function and anterior wear from crossover. Have the patient hold a face mirror at the corner of their mouth while looking forward. Then ask the patient to gently drift or move their lower jaw to the side of the face mirror. Most often the upper and lower canines match up almost automatically. Nearly every time, patients will place their teeth directly in the position of the wear. Show the patient exactly where the wear is, and ask, "do you think you chew over there?" The answer is of course no. Then inform the patient that the canine wear is from nighttime bruxism. Capture a close-up photograph with your cell phone, camera, or scanner to save as documentation and to display to the patient. Also text the photo to the patient to have him/her review at home. This has a tremendous sale and resale effect.

The "Puzzle Picture" is effective, and it tells the patient in simple terms, "you are bruxing".

The secret to miniComfort® is the specific placement of the two discluding elements located on the lower teeth so that only the maxillary canines contact these two elements when in MIP (Maximum Intercuspation Position). Absolutely no other maxillary teeth should contact the elements in MIP. When the miniComfort® is in the mouth there is 100% disclusion except for the two maxillary canines. That explains the initial comforting effect of this guard as the patient that has been clenching or bruxing on posteriors suddenly and consciously experiences disengagement of practically all their teeth. Being soft, the elements help to reduce the clenching and grinding of teeth by disrupting the habitual muscular activity, similar however more effective than the many other hard surfaced deprogramming appliances.

Daytime clenching can be every bit as damaging as nighttime bruxing, even more so when it becomes habitual. Nighttime bruxism and daytime clenching/bracing are both thought to be parafunctional muscular activities initiated by CNS impulses related to stress and anxiety. Patients that habitually clench /brace during the waking hours may benefit from using the miniComfort® as a biofeedback or an awareness trainer to help cease the harmful activity. The MiniComfort® guard is almost undetectable. As with any partial coverage guard, it is important that the patient be instructed to wear the guard only for a portion of the 24-hour day, at your discretion, depending on the stability of the patient’s dentition.

miniComfort® affords the dental practice a self-seating appliance, allowing time for patient education on miniComforts benefits, rather than time spent adjusting hard occlusal guards. Because the two discluding elements are the only points of occlusal contact, adjustment is a thing-of-the-past. Once seated, the guard forms a hydroseal over the dentition and mucosa, providing very good retention and comfort. Auxiliary staff may manage the seating appointment.

miniComfort® also offers two more unique advantages, an Instant Wear guarantee and a digital record for easy reorder. Due to the nature of the appliance, miniComfort® is designed to be replaced periodically. For this reason, we include a second complimentary guard (Instant Wear guarantee). We also digitally archive each case to simplify the reorder appointment. Allowing appliance to be reordered without taking another impression, provided the patient’s lower dentition (#20 thru #29) has not changed.

Patients love the fact they can wear their miniComfort® guard during the day! A large portion of our patient base clench during the daytime whether sitting in front of the computer or sitting in traffic. Great solution for daytime bruxers who cannot wear their traditional guard all day. It’s comfortable, invisible, and functional!

""I've been using the miniComfort® for several months. They are easy to seat, patients find them easy to wear even during the day and they are effective in preventing grinding and can help break the clenching habit. Tom Cordrick, DDS

"The only splint that ever stayed in my mouth at night. I love it and wear it when i work out, when i drive and when I sleep. It's the best splint I've ever owned, and I've tried them all". Dr. Marcus Castro

"miniComfort® is the only guard that patients can comfortably and inconspicuously wear during the day. I've prescribed it for years and have always had tremendous results. I always remind patients that this is a guard to change habit and protect teeth, ... it's not a hard plastic guard to be chewed and clenched upon. There’s nothing hard about it." Dr. John Kline, Inventor of miniComfort®
