Is clinical support available, and what should I consider before starting a Zygo case?

Clinical support is available. A GuidedSMILE Zygo case can be completed with an ROE-certified clinical support technician for the conversion portion of the surgery. There is a fee for clinical assistance. The ROE team arrives with the tools, materials, and experience needed to support your surgery. Learn more on the Chairside Support page.

Key considerations before you start

Consideration What to keep in mind
Surgical responsibility The guide controls the restorative exit point; the surgeon positions the implant apex, often freehand.
CBCT field of view The scan must include the eye orbits, or the case cannot be planned.
Record quality Incomplete or poor records are the leading cause of delay; verify before the patient leaves.
Planning meeting Zygo cases are planned live online with ROE technicians and the specialist; do not schedule surgery until the plan is approved.
Workflow choice Decide early between Option 1 (sleeve-guided exit) and Option 2 (bone-supported / photogrammetry).

Troubleshooting and common pitfalls

  • Guide will not seat passively. Confirm the fit on your models first; tissue or incomplete bone reduction can hold a stackable guide up. Verify against the carrier guide before proceeding.
  • Dual scan voids or scatter. Ensure the denture fully seats with no voids, scan in occlusion, scan the appliance alone on foam, and avoid a metal substructure that causes scatter.
  • Tracking which guide is which. Use the dot labeling (single, double, and colored dots) so each guide is matched to its planned implant site.
  • Uncertain anatomy. Decisions such as an optional incisive canal implant may be confirmed in surgery; flag anything uncertain during planning.

How to get started

  1. Capture records per FAQ 4, including a CBCT that includes the eye orbits.
  2. Submit your case through the GuidedSMILE Rx (or the CombiGuide Rx for an Option 2 workflow).
  3. Attend the online planning meeting and approve the plan before scheduling surgery.
  4. Arrange chairside support if desired.
