What is Passivity Plus™?
Passivity Plus™ is a self-adjusting titanium base system designed for use with multi-unit abutments in full-arch implant restorations. It features a pivotable, self-adjusting cap interface that compensates for minor misfits during prosthesis seating, helping achieve a passive, tension-free fit.
The Problem It Solves
Achieving passive fit in full-arch restorations is a persistent clinical challenge. When prostheses don't seat passively, stress transfers to the implants, which can lead to screw loosening, prosthesis fracture, and bone loss. These minor misfits accumulate from multiple unavoidable sources, including:
- Digital stacking, milling, and sintering tolerances
- Digital and analog impression capture variability
- Model fabrication inconsistencies
- Ongoing machine calibration limitations
Passivity Plus™ self-adjusts to compensate for these accumulated micro-discrepancies, eliminating stress-related complications without requiring perfect fit from every step in the workflow.
System Components
The system consists of four integrated components working together in a compact design:
| Component | Function |
|---|---|
| Base body | Connects to the multi-unit abutment |
| Self-adjusting cap | Pivots to compensate for minor misfits during seating |
| Specialized screw | Engages cap and base under torque to lock final position |
| Patented washer | Preserves the adjusted position by absorbing centering forces |
Why "Self-Adjustable Cap" Instead of "Ti-Base"?
Passivity Plus™ intentionally uses the term "self-adjustable cap" (preferred: "pivotable, self-adjusting cap") rather than the more common "Ti-base" for three strategic reasons:
- Versatility: Signals that the component works in both digital and analog (manual) workflows.
- Differentiation: Distinguishes Passivity Plus™ from conventional Ti-base products.
- Function: The prosthesis is cemented onto the cap extra-orally, without a traditional model, then connected to the MUA.
This terminology most accurately reflects the component's pivoting, self-adjusting function, which is the core innovation behind the system.
