How do I prescribe and submit a titanium partial case?
Prescribing a titanium partial requires no change to your usual partial-denture workflow; all material-specific handling happens in the lab. The case typically runs about three patient visits.
Records to submit: PVS or IOS impression, bite, opposing, and patient photographs. Quality impressions capturing all necessary anatomy are essential, and digital scans are preferred when available. If the patient has an existing partial, capture the impression and bite with it seated.
Appointment sequence:
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Records | Capture impression/scan, bite, opposing, photographs |
| Frame try-in (optional) | Try in the framework with wax rims; capture the bite and return to ROE |
| Wax try-in (optional) | Recommended for anterior partials or partials with 4+ teeth; verify esthetics, phonetics, VDO, occlusion |
| Seat | Adjustments should be none to minimal |
Case-prep specifics: the same rest preparations, proximal plate designs, and clinical protocols used for chrome-cobalt apply. Clearly communicate desired clasp locations and design preferences; ROE's design team reviews each case and may suggest minor modifications to take advantage of titanium's properties.
Converting an existing CoCr design: yes. Most existing partial designs can be adapted for titanium, and the design may be optimized for titanium's properties (for example, thinner connectors or alternative clasp designs).
