Why prescribe the miniComfort, and who is a candidate?
The miniComfort is comfortable, patient-friendly, and unique in that it actively disrupts bruxing, clenching, and bracing habits rather than giving the muscles a hard surface to work against. Compliance is the central advantage: traditional bulky guards are often abandoned (sometimes within minutes of trying to fall asleep), while the small, undetectable miniComfort encourages consistent wear and spares patients the embarrassment of a bulky daytime appliance.
| Benefit | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Daytime protection | Designed for daytime wear during active routines when a traditional guard is impractical |
| 100% soft construction | Soft inside and out for comfort and biocompatibility |
| Undetectable design | Invisible in wear, so patients keep professional and social interactions without embarrassment |
| Disrupts parafunction | Interrupts clenching and grinding while restoring canine disclusion |
| No muscle hyperactivity | No posterior contact, so it does not provoke the muscles of closure |
| Biofeedback | Builds patient awareness so they can recognize and reduce daytime clenching |
| Protects restorations | Even "unbreakable" restorations and implants can fail under bruxism; the guard protects the dentistry |
Candidacy. The miniComfort should be prescribed as soon as a patient shows a worn canine cusp tip. The earliest recommended age is 16 to 17 years and post-orthodontic. An appliance can be made for a younger patient only if it will not dislodge during sleep; to avoid interrupting growth it would need to be remade at roughly three-month intervals with a new impression each time, and retention can be a problem in very young patients.
