Which records checklist applies to my GuidedSMILE revision case, and what does each require?

Revision records are scenario specific. The correct checklist is determined by two questions: is the prosthesis fixed or removable, and does it contain metal?

Choosing your checklist

Photography rules:

  • The patient should wear their prostheses in the photos.
  • Photograph the patient standing up, looking directly at the camera.
  • Capture photos before taking the bite, so the lips and teeth stay clean.

Photographs are used for far more than esthetics. They inform the bite, smile line, transition zones, and vertical dimension, so the exact six views matter.

Intraoral and extraoral scans by scenario

Scanning rules that apply across scenarios:

  • Take care to fully capture abutment, scan body, and LOCATOR/attachment geometry. These parts carry the implant position.
  • If using an IOS, AI mode may need to be turned off.
  • Must capture the full palate if a temporary denture is to be ordered.
  • Beyond the temporary denture requirement, the palate is your stacking reference on revision cases. Without it, there is far less geometry available to align the intraoral scan to the CBCT.
  • The 360 degree scan of the prosthesis outside the mouth is valuable for stacking, visualization, and confirming tissue position, even where the checklist does not strictly require it.

Bite registration

Bite registration rules:

  • The bite may be captured digitally (IOS) or traditionally.
  • Ensure the patient is in full occlusion, or specify on the Rx that it is a CR bite.
  • Use enough material to capture the occlusion, but not so much that it opens the bite.
  • If the patient has an opposing prosthesis, the patient should wear it to stabilize the bite (applies to fixed revision cases).
  • A centric only bite is not acceptable.

Always note "GuidedSMILE Revision Case" on the Rx.
