Which patients are the best candidates, and which cases should I approach with caution?

Snap-On Smile is most effective when matched to the right patient and clinical situation. Below are the scenarios where it excels and the considerations to keep in mind.

Ideal candidates include patients who:

  • Have stained, discolored, chipped, misaligned, or crooked teeth
  • Have spacing, gaps, or missing teeth
  • Want to mask aging dental work
  • Are not candidates for bridges or implants
  • Are hesitant to commit to the time and cost of permanent restorative treatment and want to preview improved esthetics and function
  • Currently wear an old, uncomfortable removable partial and want a more comfortable, esthetic alternative
  • Need a non-invasive, completely reversible option

Important clinical considerations:

  • Snap-On Smile is tooth-borne and snaps over existing dentition, so the patient must have sufficient existing teeth to retain the appliance. It is not a substitute for a complete denture in a fully edentulous arch.
  • It is designed to seat without impinging on the gingival tissue or covering the palate, which supports comfort but also means retention depends on the existing teeth.
  • The appliance is best positioned as a provisional, diagnostic, or interim cosmetic solution. Insurance coding reflects this, as it is coded as an interim partial denture (D5820 / D5821).
  • Snap-On Smile is a reversible, non-invasive treatment, which makes it well suited to patients who want to experience an improved smile before deciding on definitive care.

Because every oral health situation is unique, the prescribing dentist should evaluate each patient's dentition and goals to confirm suitability. ROE's case planning team, which includes Certified Dental Technicians, is available to discuss candidacy and treatment planning.
