When should patients wear the miniComfort, and is there a wear schedule?
The miniComfort is a daytime, nighttime, anytime appliance. Daytime wear is encouraged as an aid for relaxation and awareness, not as something to chew or brace on. The single most important limit is that it must not be worn around the clock.
| Guideline | Detail |
|---|---|
| Daily rest period | Never wear 24 hours a day. Leave it out of the mouth for several hours each day (the product FAQ states at least 8 to 10 hours; the Wear-and-Care sheet states a total of 8 hours every 24 hours). |
| Eating and drinking | Never wear it while eating or drinking. |
| Clean teeth | Always wear it over clean teeth. |
| Daytime use | Use it as an aid for relaxation; avoid bracing on it. |
| Exercise/workout | Some patients want a second guard for workouts; bracing then is understandable but may cause premature wear (see the discluding-element options article). |
Patients should focus on relaxing during high-clenching situations. If conscious clenching is uncontrollable, physical therapy may be prescribed.
