What records does ROE need for an IPS e.max® Layered case, and how should I handle impressions, shade, and photography?
Impression options
ROE accepts both conventional (PVS) and digital impressions, using the same streamlined intake as its other fixed restorations, so you can stay in your existing workflow.
Required records
| Record | Notes |
|---|---|
| Impression of prepared teeth | Traditional PVS or digital IOS scan; margins clean, dry, and clearly captured |
| Opposing model | Required for the occlusal relationship |
| Bite registration | Use a thin, single rope of bite material so you can verify occlusion; avoid over-filling |
| Shade | VITA 3D-Master; include stump (prep) shade and clinical photographs |
The two failure modes to guard against
For a glass-ceramic anterior unit, an open or short margin and a mis-mounted bite are the records-level problems most likely to send a case back. ROE recommends full-arch records where possible, since they let all teeth come into proper occlusion and give the best chance of correct bite registration. If you're unsure a bite is mounted correctly, ROE can mount and verify it before fabrication.
Shade is where most of your effort should go
Because this product is chosen for the hardest esthetic cases, the shade record is critical.
- Stump shade is the single most impactful detail. Lithium disilicate is translucent, so the prep color shows through and influences the final result. Any discrepancy between the stump shade you record and the desired final shade can throw off the match.
- Photograph with shade tabs in frame, so the ceramist sees your reference under your lighting.
- For high-smile-line cases, add full-face full-smile and full-face retracted-smile photos to convey tooth proportion, incisal display, and smile context.
