What records do I need to submit for a Thermoplastic Partial Dentures, and what is the clinical workflow?

A thermoplastic partial follows ROE's "Partial without Metal Framework" workflow and is estimated at 3 patient visits. You can download the full Partial without Metal Framework workflow for reference.

Required records:

  • PVS impression (preferred) or IOS impression
  • Bite registration
  • Opposing arch
  • Patient photographs

Lab process: Records, optional wax try-in, then seat.

Recommended technology and materials chairside:

  • Optional: IOS scanner
  • Optional: PVS impression material
  • Pressure indicating paste
  • Denture polishing and finishing tools

Workflow steps (Partial without Metal Framework protocol):

  1. Take the following photos with the patient standing up: full-face full-smile, full-face exaggerated smile, and optionally full-face profile.
  2. With no prosthesis in the mouth, capture records: either an IOS scan of upper, lower, and bite, or a physical impression and bite.
  3. Optional: if the patient has an existing prosthesis, seat it and capture records (IOS scan or physical impression and bite).
  4. Send your records to ROE and complete the Rx at the ROE upload portal. If using an IOS, submit scans via the IOS portal or export your STL files and upload them to the ROE portal.
  5. Optional: order a wax try-in from ROE. Seat the wax try-in, verify esthetics, phonetics, VDO, and occlusion, make adjustments as necessary, and return the try-in to ROE. A wax try-in is recommended for partials in the anterior or partials with 4 or more teeth.
  6. Seat the new partial denture and adjust clasps as needed (see the clasp adjustment FAQ).
  7. Use pressure indicating paste to determine pressure areas, make adjustments as necessary, finish, and polish.
  8. Seat the new final partial denture.

Note: If a patient has an existing partial denture, take impressions and the bite with the partial seated. To submit your case, use ROE's Send a Case option.
