What records do I need to send, and what is "the No Scan Appliance Technique"?

To streamline your workflow, ROE developed the "No Scan Appliance Technique." For a tooth-supported case, this technique requires only:

  1. Master casts or digital impressions from any device, plus
  2. A CBCT with the arches separated by cotton rolls.

This approach eliminates complex scanning protocols while maintaining exceptional precision, which simplifies record-gathering for partially dentate patients.

Critical CBCT scanning tip for dentate patients: Always separate the arches with cotton rolls, a bite stick, or CT equipment bite fork for the scans. Never scan in occlusion. If the patient has mostly metal-based restorations, send models to ROE for scan appliance fabrication, since metal can create scatter that compromises the scan.

Records and submission steps:

Step Action
1 Understand the records you need for CT planning (use ROE's surgical guide decision tree)
2 Export and send your DICOM
3 Upload your case
4 Sign ROE's Master Surgical Agreement

From there, ROE will design the surgical guide, conduct an online meeting with you for design approval and sign-off, and then create and mail your finished surgical guide.

ROE accepts IOS (intraoral scanner) files from all major brands. For more detail on collecting and sending records, see ROE's Getting Started with Surgical Guides page.
