What records and design considerations matter for a successful bar overdenture?

Consideration Guidance
Vertical space A bar overdenture requires a minimum of 15 mm of restorative space. Identify this early; if space is limited, a LOCATOR overdenture (12 mm minimum) may be more appropriate.
Impression type An implant-level or abutment-level impression can be digital or analog, depending on whether abutments are already seated.
Attachment / tissue height ROE selects the attachment or abutment height based on the tissue, so the impression must capture accurate tissue detail.
Passive fit verification Cases are fabricated using a verification jig to confirm implant position and the passive fit of the bar before processing.
Reinforcement The denture is reinforced with metal or FiberForce® to resist fracture, which is part of why the design suits heavy bites and bruxers.
Bite and opposing records Always capture a bite and opposing with the bite rim seated on the attachments so the lab can establish the correct vertical dimension before the wax try-in.

The denture base material itself is a clinical-grade injected denture system. ROE links supporting Ivoclar Vivadent material reports on the bar overdenture page, including studies on IvoBase denture strength and toughness and patient sensitization risk, for clinicians who want the underlying data.
