What is zRc Zirconia, and what is it made of?
zRc (Zirconia ROE Crown) is a full-contour, monolithic zirconia restoration milled from a single block of 4Y (4 mol%) zirconia. Because it's monolithic — meaning there's no layered porcelain over a separate framework — there is no porcelain-to-substrate interface that can chip or delaminate, which is the most common failure point in layered restorations.
zRc is ROE's current monolithic zirconia brand, built on the latest 4Y-class technology, which ROE positions as offering roughly 5% higher translucency, improved strength, and better wearability than previous-generation zirconias. It is domestically manufactured (made in the USA) for consistent quality and faster turnaround. Relative to the most translucent esthetic ceramics it remains the stronger, more opaque, more economical option — which is exactly what makes it well suited to back teeth, resisting fracture and stress under heavy chewing loads.
In short, zRc is built for maximum durability and strength at an accessible price, making it ROE's workhorse option for both posterior and anterior restorations where strength leads the decision.
Why monolithic for posterior teeth? Monolithic crowns are preferred for posterior teeth that endure significant chewing forces. They deliver superior strength, durability, and cost-effectiveness, and are especially suitable for patients with a history of damaging restorations or parafunctional habits (e.g., bruxism/clenching).
