What is the complete clinical workflow for an SLM Cobalt Chrome Partial?

The SLM Cobalt Chrome Partial follows ROE's "Partial with Metal Framework" workflow. It is estimated at three patient visits, with optional framework and wax try-in appointments available depending on case complexity. ROE recommends a wax try-in for partials in the anterior or partials with four or more teeth, where esthetics and tooth arrangement are more critical.

Technology and materials to have on hand:

Item Status
IOS scanner Optional
PVS impression material Optional
Pressure indicating paste Required
Denture polishing and finishing tools Required

Note that either an IOS scanner or PVS impression material is used for records, so they are each marked optional individually because the clinician chooses one capture method. Pressure indicating paste and finishing tools are needed chairside at seating.

Workflow steps:

  1. Patient photographs. Take the following with the patient standing up: full-face full-smile, full-face exaggerated smile, and optionally a full-face profile.
  2. Capture records (no prosthesis in mouth). Either capture an IOS scan of the upper, lower, and bite, or capture a physical impression and bite.
  3. Optional, existing prosthesis. If the patient has an existing prosthesis, seat it and capture records. When taking records with an existing partial, take the impressions and bite with the partial seated.
  4. Submit to ROE. Send records and complete the Rx at www.roedentallab.com/upload. If using an IOS, submit scans via the IOS portal or export your .STLs and upload them to the ROE portal.
  5. Optional, framework try-in. Try the metal framework(s) in the mouth. Fabricate wax rims, attach them to the framework(s), capture the bite via IOS or PVS impression material, and return the framework and bite to ROE.
  6. Optional, wax try-in. Order wax try-in(s) from ROE. Seat the wax try-in(s), verify esthetics, phonetics, VDO, and occlusion, make adjustments as necessary, and return the try-in to ROE.
  7. Try in the partial. Try in the new partial denture. Use pressure indicating paste to identify pressure areas, then adjust as necessary, finish, and polish.
  8. Seat the final. Seat the new final partial denture. Adjustments should be none to minimal.

Workflow at a glance by appointment:

Appointment Core Activity Optional Add-Ons
Appointment 1 Photographs, capture records (impression, bite, opposing), submit to ROE Capture records over existing prosthesis if present
Optional visit(s) Framework try-in with wax rims; wax try-in for esthetics
Final appointment Try in partial, check with pressure indicating paste, adjust/finish/polish, seat final
