What is the clinical workflow for an All-Acrylic Partial (Flipper)?
One of the primary advantages of the flipper is its simple, streamlined workflow. Unlike metal-framework or wax try-in partials, the all-acrylic partial requires no framework try-in and no wax try-in. The clinician simply captures records and seats at the next appointment, which is why it is one of the easiest-to-deliver appliances ROE offers (rated a top ease-of-workflow score among partials).
Technology and materials needed:
- Optional: IOS scanner
- Optional: PVS impression material
- Pressure indicating paste
- Denture polishing and finishing tools
Workflow steps:
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Take photos with the patient standing up: full-face full-smile, full-face exaggerated smile, and (optional) full-face profile |
| 2 | Optional: If the patient has an existing prosthesis, seat it before capturing records. Capture records by either an IOS scan of upper, lower, and bite OR a physical impression and bite |
| 3 | Send records to ROE and complete the Rx via the upload portal. If using an IOS, submit scans via the IOS portal OR export your .STLs and upload to the ROE portal |
| 4 | Use pressure indicating paste to determine pressure areas. Make adjustments as necessary, then finish and polish |
| 5 | Seat the new final partial denture |
The full step-by-step guide is available in the downloadable All-Acrylic Partial Workflow PDF. This same workflow applies to a unilateral (Nesbit) partial.
