What is a bone-supported surgical guide, and when should I use one?

A bone-supported surgical guide is a guided-surgery template that derives its support directly from the bone, specifically the load-bearing areas and natural divergence of the alveolar ridge in both the maxillary and mandibular arches. At ROE, this represents the most advanced solution for full-arch edentulous implant cases.

Because the guide seats on exposed bone, it requires extensive flap reflection for proper access and seating. ROE has refined its processes to mitigate the inherent difficulties through meticulous planning, advanced imaging protocols, and extensive technical expertise.

Ideal use cases at a glance:

Factor Bone-Supported Guide
Best for Edentulous cases where a dual-scan is not an option
Number of sites Any number
Support source Alveolar ridge / load-bearing bone
Primary indication Full-arch reconstruction where other support options are unavailable
Optional feature Open channel for bone leveling / reduction

This guide is primarily indicated for edentulous patients requiring complete arch reconstruction where tooth-supported or tissue-supported options are not suitable. If your case allows a dual-scan, the tissue-supported guide is often the preferred edentulous choice. See FAQ 6 for a full comparison.
