What does the overdenture-to-fixed-prosthesis workflow involve?
This workflow turns a removable overdenture into a screw-retained fixed prosthesis. It is structured across two appointments and ends with records sent to ROE for a Printed Try-In.
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Remove the overdenture (and any bar or attachment components) and capture an implant-level impression that records the tissue around each implant. This detail determines MUA angle and collar height (measured from the top of the implant to the top of the healing collar). |
| 2 | Produce a denture, either by duplicating the existing overdenture (flasking technique or a 360° IOS scan, if it is in acceptable condition) or by making a new one. |
| 3 | Capture a wash impression inside the new denture, plus a bite and opposing model. |
| — | Second appointment: do not proceed until the appropriate MUAs and the conversion denture are on hand. |
| 4 | Remove the overdenture, seat the MUAs, and perform the denture conversion. This is a traditional All-On-4-type conversion that turns the denture into a hybrid (see the Freehand Denture Conversion protocol). |
| 5 | Send the patient home for a period that allows approval, equilibration, and modification to the doctor's and patient's satisfaction. |
| 6 | Perform the Flasking Technique. |
| 7 | Send all records to ROE, which fabricates or provides in-office printing files for the Printed Try-In, a 3D-printed prototype of the final prosthesis. |
Quick reference (from the Full-Arch Restorative Protocols guide):
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Patient appointments to final | 5–7 |
| Allocation of effort (Dr / Staff / Lab) | 30% / 0% / 70% |
| Goal | Seat MUAs at the ideal orientation and capture records for a Printed Try-In |
