What does the day-of-surgery scanning and capture workflow look like?
The GuidedSMILE Digital workflow is designed around a single, simple scan captured after implant placement. Below is the typical sequence.
Surgical stacking sequence (CombiGuide):
- The Pin Guide delivers the Fixation Base and the Fixation Base is pinned into position.
- The Bone Reduction / Osteotomy Guide locks into the Fixation Base to guide bone leveling and implant placement.
- Multi-unit abutments are placed and the rotation and position are directed for proper seating.
Digital capture sequence (Scanguide):
Once the implants and abutments are placed, the Scanguide is positioned as a mask over the surgical field, and the scan bodies or flags protrude through it. The capture is then performed in one continuous pass:
- Scan the scan bodies first, moving smoothly left to right across the arch.
- Continue around and scan the Scanguide itself, which takes only seconds.
- Optionally capture part of the Fixation Base to give ROE a clean three-dimensional geometry.
- Repeat for the opposing arch if applicable.
Upload and design:
The captured file is then uploaded (drag and drop) to ROE through your case portal. ROE re-introduces the scan into the pre-designed stack that was created during planning, designs the prosthesis, and returns the file. When using this single-scan technique, the file is typically returned in 30 minutes or less.
Important scheduling note: Notify ROE of your surgery date more than 48 hours in advance so the design team is ready to provide the expedited return.
