What does the clinical workflow look like, and what records does ROE need?

ROE's digital denture process is built around a two-appointment model: one appointment for initial measurements and records, and a second appointment to seat the final denture. As ROE describes it, the workflow goes directly from a bite block to a final denture, which removes the traditional wax try-in for the majority of cases.

Records ROE needs:

  • Traditional or digital impressions
  • Bite registration using a base plate and wax rim
  • A reline wash impression inside the baseplate if needed
  • Patient photographs are used to support accurate digital setup

General appointment sequence:

  1. Appointment 1: capture impressions, bite, and opposing records, and take patient photographs.
  2. Lab: ROE designs and 3D prints the denture, keeping the digital record on file.
  3. Appointment 2: seat the final denture. The patient can often wear the final denture home the same day.

Records submission: Upload digital files and complete the Rx at www.roedentallab.com/upload. Intraoral scanner files from all major brands are accepted, either through the IOS portal or by exporting STLs to the ROE portal. If sending physical models or analog records, include a printed copy of the Rx.

When a printed try-in is recommended: With modern lab technology, more than 80 percent of digital denture cases do not require a printed try-in. A photo of the patient smiling with the bite block or reference denture is typically sufficient. ROE recommends a printed try-in only when:

Indication for a printed try-in
Changing the bite class
The patient has a complicated cross-bite
Opening the bite more than 2mm
The patient is very demanding
