What do I do with broken CHROME Loc loops or plungers on the Pin Guide?
The Pin Guide secures to the Fixation Base with three CHROME Locs. Accurate Pin Guide–to–Fixation Base assembly is vital to case success, so handle these parts carefully.
Inspecting for a good fit: Does the Pin Guide seat into the Fixation Base passively? Do the CHROME Loc plungers insert easily and almost passively? If not, there may be material inside the CHROME Loc box (sometimes clear, hard-to-see broken plastic), or the guide may have been heat-cleaned and warped. Use a narrow bur to open the hole on the Pin Guide CHROME Loc loop until the plunger seats. You can also taper/round the end of the plunger tip.
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| CHROME Loc loop(s) broken | Use manual clamping (fingers) to hold the Pin Guide and Fixation Base together. Alternatively, put the surgery on hold for a new Pin Guide — the case should be returned to ROE to ensure accurate assembly. |
| Plunger won't plunge | The guide may be going in crooked. Inspect and clean the CHROME Loc box; check for warping from heat cleaning. Carefully adjust the insertion part until the plunger plunges. If using rongeurs, twist and pull delicately. |
| Plunger pin pulled out | It can be re-seated but won't lock like the others — it will pull out every time, so use care when removing so it isn't dropped in the mouth. The plunger still works. Chairside support may carry spare plastic sleeves. |
