What best practices and troubleshooting tips help ensure an accurate capture?

A successful GuidedSMILE Digital case depends on a clean, complete capture and well-prepared records. The tips below help avoid the most common issues.

Best practices for capture:

  • Confirm the Scanguide is fully seated before scanning so the scan bodies and flags protrude correctly through the masking platform.
  • Scan in one smooth pass, capturing scan bodies left to right first, then the Scanguide, then optionally part of the Fixation Base for added three-dimensional reference.
  • Choose full-arch scan bodies such as the ArchBridge for multi-implant cases, since their separate, non-repeating shapes prevent scanner confusion.
  • Keep the capture surface as clean as possible. The Scanguide masks blood and tissue, but a cleaner field still improves scan quality.

Troubleshooting common situations:

Situation Recommended Action
Scanner struggles to stitch repeating shapes Use distinct, non-repeating scan bodies such as the ArchBridge
Bloody or moving field obscures capture Rely on the Scanguide mask and capture stationary, non-repeating geometries
Sedated or non-cooperative patient The protocol does not require patient cooperation or multiple bite registrations
Need to preserve the original bite The metal Fixation Base acts as the constant reference across surgical stages
Uncertain capture quality Capture part of the Fixation Base to give ROE additional 3D geometry

Records that drive accuracy:

Because the design is built on your pre-surgical plan, the quality of your initial records is critical. Review ROE's patient record requirements and consider real-time patient record verification so issues are caught before the patient leaves the chair.

For first cases, ROE also recommends chairside support, where an expert technician can guide your team through the protocol.
