What are the preparation requirements for IPS e.max Monolithic crowns?

Proper preparation is essential for a well-fitting, durable IPS e.max Monolithic restoration. Follow these guidelines:

Preparation parameter Requirement
Prep design Chamfer or shoulder prep with a 4 to 8 degree axial wall taper
Margin Minimum 1 mm chamfer margin of 10 to 30 degrees
Occlusal clearance Minimum 1.5 mm
Labial and lingual clearance Minimum 1.5 mm
Margins to avoid No knife-edge margins and no sharp or right angles

The preparation geometry should allow the crown to seat in only one correct position to provide stability and prevent the restoration from moving or seating incorrectly. Clean, dry margins are also critical, because any blood or fluid around the margins during scanning can produce inaccurate impressions and lead to open or short margins in the final restoration.
