In ROE’s guidance video, Chris from ROE Lab explains that the right recommendation depends on the patient’s habits, including their bruxing and grinding patterns and whether a TMJ situation is involved. There is no single answer for every patient, so the selection should follow the clinical picture.

That said, ROE reports that the Semi-Soft option is the most popular choice. The reason: once it is seated in the mouth it warms up and gains a slight flex, which makes it more comfortable for the patient and helps it fit better. In the video, the Semi-Soft guard is shown coming out of warm water with a noticeably flexible feel.

A few things to note from the comparisons above:

  • AdaptivFIT is a thermo-adaptive hard night guard. It has the highest impact strength in the CLEARguard line (57-62 J/m).
  • Hard and Hard with Memory Liner have the highest flexural strength (100-110 MPa). The memory liner version adds a soft Astron liner for patient comfort.
  • Hard with Memory Liner is 4 days in lab. All other options are 3 days.
