What are FP1, FP2, and FP3 design levels, and how do I choose for a TLZ-IB case?
The TLZ-IB is available in three functional design levels, FP1, FP2, and FP3, which describe how much prosthetic gum tissue the restoration includes. The right choice depends on the patient's lip dynamics, transition line, and available vertical space.
| Design | Prosthetic tissue | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| FP1 | Only prosthetic teeth, no prosthetic gums | The patient's natural gums are typically visible when smiling. Well-suited to the esthetic zone or when the transition line falls in the smile. |
| FP2 | A small amount of prosthetic gum visible | The patient's natural gums are typically not visible when smiling. Useful where there is limited vertical space or a transition line concern. |
| FP3 | Full prosthetic gums visible | The patient's natural gums are not visible when smiling. The workhorse design for full prosthetic tissue replacement. |
For FP2 and esthetic-zone blending, ROE recommends submitting quality photographs of the tissue so the prosthetic gingiva can be matched to blend in. Beyond tissue level, other TLZ-IB design choices include copings or no copings, material choice, and whether the restoration is monolithic or built with a substructure.
