Troubleshooting and clinical considerations for CLEARguard™

Below are common considerations and troubleshooting points for clinicians working with CLEARguard.

Choosing the right option for the patient. Selection should follow the patient's habits and clinical needs:

If the patient... Consider...
Wants maximum comfort and a forgiving fit Semi-Soft (ROE's most popular option)
Needs a standard hard occlusal splint Hard
Benefits from a hard shell with a conforming inner surface Hard with Memory Liner
Presents with heavy bruxing, grinding, or a TMJ situation Match the option to the clinical picture, and reach out for case planning if unsure

Fit and adjustments. Because CLEARguard is fabricated digitally, it is designed to require minimal adjustment at delivery and to keep remake rates low. If a fit issue does occur, confirm that the original records captured the full lower arch including the labial vestibule, since incomplete records are a common cause of fit problems.

Comfort at seating. If a Semi-Soft or Memory Liner appliance feels tight initially, confirm the patient warmed it correctly in hot water before seating, as the heat-and-seat step is what allows these options to flex and adapt.

Durability. CLEARguard's advanced resins are selected for wear resistance and fracture toughness. For patients with severe bruxism who may need an alternative, ROE also offers CLEARsplint™, a strong composite appliance positioned for severe cases.

Replacements and reproduction. A practical advantage of the digital workflow is that the design file can be reused, so a lost or worn appliance can be reproduced quickly without recapturing records, provided the patient's dentition has not changed.

Warranty and support. Review ROE's Warranty Statement for coverage details. For clinical questions or help with a specific case, contact ROE at (216) 663-2233 or info@roedentallab.com, or use Chairside Support.

Related options to compare. If CLEARguard is not the right fit, the Splints & Guards overview compares CLEARguard alongside miniComfort™ (a soft daytime and nighttime habit-disrupting guard) and ForceField™ (a sports mouthguard).
