How do patients seat and care for a CLEARguard™ appliance?

Seating heat-and-seat options. The Semi-Soft and Hard with Memory Liner options are heat-and-seat appliances. Warming the guard in hot water before placement allows it to soften slightly and conform for a more comfortable, secure fit. In ROE's video, the Semi-Soft guard is demonstrated straight out of warm water, showing the gentle flex that develops once the material is warmed. After warming, the patient seats the guard so it adapts closely to the dentition as it returns to mouth temperature.

The standard Hard option is not a heat-and-seat appliance and is seated directly without warming.

Cleaning and maintenance. CLEARguard's smooth, non-porous surface is designed to make cleaning and hygiene maintenance straightforward. General best practices to share with patients include:

  • Rinse the appliance after each use
  • Clean it regularly using a method appropriate to the material
  • Store it dry in its case when not in use
  • Bring it to recall appointments so the fit and condition can be checked

Because cleaning agents and water temperature can affect different resins differently, advise patients to follow the specific care instructions you provide with their appliance, and to avoid hot water on any option that is not intended to be reheated.
