How do I transition a patient into an overdenture once the implants are placed?
You can do this work chairside, but many doctors prefer to have ROE handle it. The pathway depends on whether the abutments and attachments are already seated. In both cases ROE returns a processed-base bite rim (bite block) and moves the case to a wax set-up before processing the final.
| Step | Implant level (no abutments/attachments seated yet) | Abutment level (abutments/attachments already seated) |
|---|---|---|
| Impression ROE needs | Implant-level impression (digital or analog) | Abutment-level impression, captured with the housings/copings in place |
| What ROE returns | A processed-base bite rim/block with the attachments in place; ROE selects the attachment/tissue height based on the tissue and sends or specifies which abutments to order | A processed-base bite rim/block; ROE can send the pickup copings/housings or you can order them from your supply rep |
| Chairside step | Seat the abutments, then seat the bite rim on top of the attachments and take a bite | Seat the copings, then take a bite and opposing |
| Records returned to ROE | Bite (and opposing) | Bite, opposing |
| Next | ROE sends a wax set-up, then processes the final | ROE moves to a wax try-in, then processes the final |
