How do I seat and cement a zRc restoration?

  1. Sanitize / clean the intaglio — clean the inside of the crown with a cleaning solution before placement.
  2. Cement of choice: resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI) is the standard recommendation for zRc.
  3. For non-retentive or limited-clearance preps: consider bonding instead, since retention may be inadequate for conventional cementation.

Control your cement volume. Studies show clinicians routinely use up to 20× more cement than needed, resulting in ~95% extrusion beyond the margins. Excess cement is hard to clean, obscures the margin, and — especially on subgingival or implant margins — acts as a bacterial reservoir. Apply only a thin film inside the crown, seat fully, then remove excess while still rubbery using floss and scalers, cleaning subgingivally and around all margins. Finish by checking proximal contacts, emergence profile, and occlusion (centric and excursive), then polish all adjusted surfaces so rough zirconia doesn't abrade opposing or adjacent natural teeth.
