How do I monitor wear compliance and build miniComfort into my practice?
The most reliable compliance signal is the wear on the discluding elements, so ask patients to bring the appliance to every recare visit.
| Wear level | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| No wear | Shiny, unworn discluding elements |
| Slight wear | Slightly scuffed elements |
| Extreme wear | Macerated or torn elements |
Documenting this at each visit lets you educate the patient, and compliance tends to rise once patients see the wear for themselves. To build adoption across the practice:
- Use show and tell with the "Puzzle Picture." Have patients check their canines in a mirror or selfie; pointed, unworn canines are normal, while flattening signals clenching or grinding and is the moment to discuss a miniComfort before damage progresses to the anteriors.
- Train all staff on the FAQ content and the Puzzle Picture.
- Add a clenching question to the medical-history update at every recare visit (for example, "Have you ever caught yourself clenching or bracing during the day?"), then challenge the patient to catch themselves over the coming week.
- Offer a replacement/loyalty program, which reinforces prevention, positions your office as the source of replacement guards, and ties in with regular cleaning visits. Reorders generally need no new impression.
