How do I check fit and adjust the drill spoons/sleeves?

Test first: Check the surgical kit early for passive fit. The spoons should drop in with little to no resistance. Where implants are divergent and close together, confirm the spoons seat fully without touching an adjacent site. (The lab checks this, but verify anyway.)

Spoon fit What to do
Spoons too tight Adjust as little as possible. Use a metal-cutting bur with indicator in the guide tube to find the exact contact point. Turn the guide upside down and sight up through the tube to spot the hang-up. If they're so tight it seems the wrong design was made, decide clinically whether to proceed (proceeding may be fine if bone is very wide).
Spoons too loose Make sure the top of the spoon sits flat on the Osteotomy Guide and drill from there. Use much more caution on a narrow ridge. Wrapping the spoon with Teflon tape is an option. When loose, ensure the tops of the Osteotomy Guide sleeves and the spoon are flush-seated when drilling.
