How do CLEARaline attachments work, and when are they needed?
Depending on the treatment plan, CLEARaline may be used with or without tooth attachments. Attachments are small, tooth-colored, rectangular features bonded to specific teeth and placed horizontally or vertically to help the aligner grip and move a tooth more effectively. When attachments are part of the plan, ROE provides an attachment tray at the appropriate stage of treatment so the clinician can place them in the planned locations.
Attachments matter for two reasons:
| Reason | Detail |
|---|---|
| They are required for extrusion | Extrusion (moving a tooth out of its supporting structures) is only achievable with attachments. |
| They expand the case maximums | Anterior cases with attachments allow greater cumulative movement, for example up to 40° rotation versus 28° without, and up to 14° of inclination and angulation versus 7° without. |
Because attachments also change the pricing and the maximum number of stages (see FAQ 5), confirm during planning whether the case needs them. ROE's treatment plan and the included 3D viewer will show where attachments are placed and at which stage.
