Can a LOCATOR Overdenture patient later transition to a fixed prosthesis?

Yes. Patients often move from a removable overdenture to a screw-retained, MUA-level fixed prosthesis seeking improved esthetics, function, and self-confidence. Before committing, evaluate these considerations:

Consideration Detail
Prosthetic / vertical space A minimum of 13 mm is required (15 mm is ideal) from the implant platform to the screw exit around the arch; confirmed by measuring articulated casts
MUA selection Choose the multi-unit abutment angles and collar/tissue heights for the best screw access
Vertical dimension Maintain, restore, or increase vertical dimension as needed
Flange / lip support Many overdenture patients rely on a flange for lip support, which can be a disqualifier for a fixed prosthesis
Appointments Plan to minimize the number of appointments to completion

Prerequisites: the patient must have a duplicate or immediate denture to convert, and the case must be suitable for an All-On-X denture conversion. The goal of the workflow is to seat the MUAs at the ideal orientation and capture records for a Printed Try-In (a 3D-printed prototype of the final prosthesis).
