In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Independence-based ROE Dental Laboratory has refocused its significant 3D-printing manufacturing capability to begin creating nasopharyngeal (NP) COVID-19 testing swabs as well as facial personal protective equipment for those on the front lines of the fight.
“We saw a need, and we wanted them [PPE] for our own staff,” said BJ Kowalski, president of ROE Dental Laboratory, 7165 E. Pleasant Valley Rd.
Since the laboratory’s 40 3D printers are designed to accept new files and materials easily, Kowalski and his team were able to respond quickly and begin production shortly after Gov. Mike DeWine announced the state’s stay-at-home order.
